Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 12

BANG!

Retro

So long non-vintage vintage inserts. At least this box produced two Sox. I’ll have to pick up copies for my own collection though.

Heritage

Lookie here, it’s the same exact two Red Sox players again. You definitely can’t complain about pulling two inserts of Big Papi and Pedroia. Cano is a refractor. Both Kemp and Cano are available (unless Night Owl wants the Kemp).

Ref

Another insert set, another Kemp. You know the drill.

Colors

Holy Schnikies did this box ever deliver. The red Belt /25 sold for $33.54 and the Cashner Sepia sold for $9.99 (paired with a standard refractor). We haven’t even gotten to the autos yet and this box has almost already paid for itself. The Bautista and Rasmus are available.

Autos

And behind door number 12…a zonk. The Revere is a refractor and he’s having a great final month of the season, but there isn’t a huge demand for his cards. Noesi, more like no sell. Oh well, good thing this box had those great refractors in it. That’s what I really like about this product, you’ve got so many chances to pull big cards. The Black Heritage refractors go for good money, the /99 and /100 refractors do well if you’ve got the right player and the /50 and /25 can do well for almost anyone. Combine that with the fact that there’s a very good rookie auto crop this year and you’ve got a great product for busting.

RedemptionWell, there you go. No wait, there’s one more card that has to be posted:

This is the redemption card for the standard autographed cards. This card sold for $40 on eBay. 3 to 4 years from now, that could be a steal or it could be a bust. To me, it just means another overachieving box. Pretty cool that redemption pulls bookended the case in box 1 and box 12. Those were both huge pulls.

Thanks for following along. I’m going to get a case recap up which includes how each individual box has done as far as sales go. I had a lot of fun busting this though and feel like I did very well. Thanks for following along.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 11

Retro

Heritage

Ian Kinsler is the refractor and the rest are base. All of these are available.

Ref

All of these are available.

Colors

My favorite boxes are the ones with the better refractor parallels. I love both the Sepia and Black parallels. The Atomics look cool as well. All three of these are available.

Autos

I was a little bummed to see that it was Brent Morel on the card when I pulled a red refractor auto card (numbered to 25), but it ended up selling for $50 on eBay so I can’t complain at all. The Nunez sold for $6.32 so that pretty much takes care of the box right there. When you consider one third of a set from the case cards ($10) and 12% of the Vintage set ($3.75) and then whatever the other singles from this box might sell for and this box will pay for itself and pick up the slack of another box.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 10

Retro

Heritage

Both the Reyes and Cabrera are refractors. The Dunn, Posey, Martinez and Valencia are base. All are available.

Ref

Whatever happened to white bordered refractors? The Lester in the middle almost looks like one. Mr. Lester will be sticking with me. Everything else is available (but the Rangers and Dodgers may already be spoken for).

Colors

One extra Heritage refractor means one fewer colored refractor. Another disco Yankee. Hooray! /sarcasm The Tommy Hunter looks great with the blue uniform and the blue border. Hunter’s no longer with the Rangers so next year the orange refractor will be the one to chase. Both of these are available.

Autos

This was one of the better boxes as far as autographs go. The Mike Minor blue refractor sold for $9.99 and the Kimbrel base sold for $23.04.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 9

Just wanted to remind everyone that this great case came from Atlanta Sports Cards. Check them out the next time that you’re looking to pick up some unopened wax online. Their prices are extremely competitive and you can usually get a great deal there. This is the second case that I’ve broken which I’ve gotten from them and I’ve had a great experience both times.

Retro

So frustrating to be one card away on this set. I’ll have to trek out to a card show to try and pick up the last one that I need so that I can get this up on eBay.

Heritage

The Lincecum is the refractor in this box and the rest are base. Lester is going right into my player collection, but the rest are available for sale.

Ref

The Belt is gone, but the rest of these refractors are available.

Colors

I was completely shocked that the Lance Berkman sold for $25.29. There seem to be a good amount of Berkman collectors out there. You never know what’s going to happen when you toss something up on eBay. All of the Berkman gold cards have been selling high which is good news for anyone pulling one. In comparison, I just won a David Ortiz gold refractor for $1.99. The Romero and Ramirez are still available.

Autos

Even though I did really well with this case, there is already some decline in the prices on the autographs coming out of this product. It’s unfortunate, but it’s going to happen with everything except the lowest numbered cards. The Pineda sold for $17.50 which looks like an amazing bargain compared to what Pineda’s first autographs were going for. The price should climb a little bit again when he wins the AL ROY award, but there will be a lot of these base autographs out there when all is said and done. The Chris Sale is still available.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 8

Retro

Brian McCann is the last of the Vintage cards that I have an extra that’s available from my box breaks.

Heritage

The Matt Cain black refractor sold on eBay for $15.50. Everything else is still available.

Ref

Adrian Gonzalez is staying put with me, but everything else is up for grabs.

Colors

If you watch the box breaks, you’ll notice that I mispronounce the word Sepia over and over again. Here’s a Sepia Thole along with Atomic versions of Justin Upton and Mariano Rivera. All are available.

Autos

Here’s an Aaron Crow base auto and a Chris Sale refractor. All of the buzz surrounding Sale seems to have disappeared, at least as far as eBay bidders are concerned. Both of these are available.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 7

Retro

Here’s the four vintage chrome inserts for this box.

Heritage

The Tulowitzki is a refractor and the rest are base. All are available.

Ref

Papelbon will be staying with me. The trio of Cubbies and the others are available.

Colors

This box contained one colored refractor more than usual. The Matt Cain gold refractor sold for $7.50 on eBay. The rest are still available.

Autos

Here’s the two autos for the box. I listed the Kyle Drabek for $9.99 on eBay, but it didn’t sell. Not sure yet if I’ll try bundling something else with it or just relist it at a lower price. The Barney is available.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 6

Retro

I have duplicates of Posey, Longoria and Braun that are available from the two boxes that I busted for my birthday.

Heritage

This box contained two Heritage Refractors. I’m going to have to send the Adrian Gonzalez back for a replacement though. The top left and bottom right corners are smashed and it looks like one card was printed over another. I’ll have to post a high resolution scan of the card so you can see what I mean. Everything except the Gonzalez is available to be purchased.

Ref 1

Chipper got a little chopped, but I did the best that I could to fit all of the cards without having to position any of them sideways. Big Papi is staying with me, but the rest can be yours.

Colors

I really got shorted on this box. In other boxes when I was shorted a colored refractor, I would get a black heritage refractor. I had no such luck with this box. All I got was disco Mickey Mantle and nothing else. He’s available if you want him.

Autos

Two base autos of players who aren’t in high demand on eBay. Revere has gotten hot for the Twins late in the season from the lead-off position. Drabek hasn’t performed well for the Blue Jays this year. Both cards are available.

PlateIt’s always nice when you get a little something different in a box. There was a reason why I was shorted a colored refractor:

With 1/1 Superfractors and Canary Diamonds available, I was pretty disappointed to get a printing plate for my 1/1. This is a Matt Young magenta printing plate that sold for $10 on eBay.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 5

Retro

More of the Vintage cards. I guess the most puzzling thing about this is that there was a 1996 Chrome set. If you’re going to do anything, do a design that never had a chrome version. Are they celebrating the 15th anniversary of the set?

Heritage

This box produced a Carlos Pena Heritage refractor and base Heritage cards of Granderson, Walden, Conger and Luebke. All of these are available.

Ref

More base refractors. The Pedroia is staying with me and I paired up the Cashner with the Sepia refractor. All of the rest are available.

Colors

It looks like I was shorted a colored refractor in this box. Both the Prado Atomic and Feliz black are available.

Autos

The autos in this box were a Carlos Peguero base and an Aaron Crow refractor. Both of these are available.

I’m Tapped Out

Well, these posts are taking longer than I thought they would so I’m calling it a night. If you think that you might be interested in some of the bigger hits from the case, check out my eBay account. If you don’t want to wait to see what I pulled, check out the videos. I think it will be better to spread them out anyway. I’ll try and post another 4 or so on Sunday.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 4

Retro

I do have to say, this set does have a great checklist. A different design and I’d be tempted to hold on to this set.

Heritage

David Price is a refractor and the other three are base. All are available.

Ref

All are available. Drop me a comment.

Colors

One fewer Heritage insert equal one extra colored refractor. The Pablo Sandoval Sepia is on eBay with a $4.99 starting bid. Everything else is available.

Autos

Again, when a box contained two base auto cards, it supplied one of the best players in the set. Belt’s extremely lazy auto is on eBay with a .99¢ starting bid. The Cobb is available for any Tampa Bay fans out there.

Case Break: 2011 Topps Chrome Baseball: Box 3

Retro

Topps is still pumping out the Strasburg cards. From his brief return at the end of the season, it looks like anyone who picked up Strasburg cards in the past year might end up being rewarded. It will be interesting to see if he can recapture the same hype as when he entered the game even if he pitches as well as he was before the injury.

Heritage

The Thome is a refractor and the rest are base. All are available.

Ref 1

All of these are available.

Colors

I’m still loving the Sepia refractors. The McCann can be yours for just $4.99 (currently) on eBay. The Damon red (numbered to 25) is currently on eBay with a BIN of $25 and offers accepted. Domonic Brown is available.

Autos

Rookie auto parallels popped out of my case at a pretty good rate. I got 8 in 12 boxes which is more than acceptable to me. This box contained a Sepia Andrew Cashner auto which is up on eBay with a starting bid of $9.99. One of the few downsides to this rookie auto crop is that it is very pitcher heavy and on top of that reliever heavy. The Walden is also up on eBay with a starting bid of $4.99.

That’s it for box 3, let me know if there’s anything you’re interested in.
